Fun Weekend

We had a blast this past Memorial Day weekend.
Went to a couple of Dave Matthews Band shows Fri and Sat....

Then drove down to DC for a weekend with the family.

Esther, Rob & the girls were on the east coast for a wedding, so the rest of us took advantage of the opportunity to see them. What a great time...this needs to become a tradition!

Michael and Mary back together.
A bunch of people came up and asked us if they were twins.

Riding the Metro

We stoped by the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum.
Although Mikey didn't know these were the first
US & Russian Nuclear missiles, he was still very impressed.
Wish we had video of this.
He was going crazy, pointing & yelling at all the planes.

Ashley loving it too.

After this we went to the Holocaust Memorial Museum. Mikey slept for most of it but woke up in the middle of the place and started quacking. Picture that, you're playing tribute to one of the worst events in the history of mankind, in silence, and you hear: "QUACK...QUACK!" We quickly exited and took no pictures.

The following are shots from the Teddy Roosevelt Memorial. Not the most popular monument, but one of the coolest, for the coolest president. It's located on the 88 acre Teddy Roosevelt Island, which is designated a national park. Fitting, since he created the national park system.

These are big stone monoliths,
featuring some of Roosevelt's best quotes.
Missing from the quotes were:
"If you could kick the person in the pants
responsible for most of you trouble, you wouldn't sit for a month."
"Speak softly and carry a big stick."
"The only man who never makes a mistake
is the man who never does anything."
This one has, "It is hard to fail,
but it is worse never to have tried to succeed."

And this has, "If I must choose between righteousness and peace,
I choose righteousness."

After a long day.

I thought this was a pretty cool picture until I saw Rachel's pics at:
Now those are amazing pics,
but do you see Theodore Roosevelt quotes? Nope.

Back home, eating, throwing & wearing dinner.

  1. Wow! You guys were really close to Dave Matthews. Wish I could have been there with you. Great pics of our time in D.C. too! We really enjoyed spending time with you, especially when we went to the Teddy Rossevelt memorial. Good times! Can't wait to see you all again.

    Love,
    Es

  2. I feel like I missed out on the trip since I didn't go with you that day :( This means we just need to do it again!!! Those are some great pics and I really like the one at dusk with Washington monument. The ones of Michael throwing food looks like something you would see at my house!!! Not in your perfectly organized, immaculate home!!! What great memoriew.
